This week, I have noticed strangers.

Yesterday, the “not-up-to-code” faucet outside was broken. Su lightly bumped it with our garbage can and it popped off. The water was pouring out like a fountain and it ran down the whole street. ( We live at the very top end of the street). While waiting for the plumber, the city, OR the water bill people to come and shut off the water, tons of neighbors came by, literally like, … 6-7 neighbors came and told us water was coming out of our spout. It was so nice that our neighbors were coming over to tell us. Either that or they thought we were wasting tons of water on purpose. It was the second to last neighbor (a dad i think, i spotted 2 carseats in his minivan) who helped us turn off the water. He was so nice, he pulled off the metal top on the sidewalk and stuck his hand down in the overflowed muck and turned it off. He was went & looked at the spout and told us it was “not-to-code.” At which point Su, Lani, and I were all very happy because it was another thing to STICK IT to Ginny, our landlady! just kidding, sorry Ginny.

I rode the bus today too and realized I will miss the bus because you see so many interesting people. Isn’t it WEIRD? the bus?  It’s like, a bunch of random people getting a ride from someone. it’s also really weird when the bus is completely quiet. like it was today. I just thought, ” this is so weird…” You just see tons of different people. AND there are people, whom i’ve named “bus people” who all know each other. They take transit all the time, and recognize each other around town. There’s one lady i think who lives down my street, and she’s so cute. She’s a larger older lady who pushes around this little metal/ meshed cart, but she’s like out of a movie or SOMETHING. She has this new york/ chicago ( can’t pin it exactly) accent and makes lots of small talk.

” hey gary! where ya goin’? Food fa Less?

ya know, you should take tha three back. ya, take the three. ‘cause the one don’t run at that time anymore, ya know?”

haha! so cute. and also in my class today, after we were done sketching, i was all packed up and going to put my drawing board away when the guy sitting next to me said, ” I got it.” Love it when things like that happen.

gotta love strangers in SLO :)
